St. George Getaway!

AMAZING!!

I feel like I could just put that word with the pictures and that would sum up the trip but you all know how I like lots of details so I guess I won't be doing that.  Dan and I have never left the kids to go somewhere together, ever! Not even an over nighter.  It was time, in fact it was overdue.  I finally just decided to plan something and make sure Dan got work off and we were going.  We didn't do anything crazy, exotic but it was still so much fun.  We just decided to go down to St. George for a few days.  Mom S watched the kids for us and we were soooo grateful.  Madeline helped too and we couldn't have done it without them so thank you, thank you!  Thank you really isn't enough, seriously so nice of all that helped out.

We left Thursday afternoon at about 12:30 or so.  Even the drive down just talking to one another and not getting interrupted or having to turn around every 2 minutes to get the kids something was wonderful.  I don't leave my kids very often, can you tell?! :)  We got down there around 5:30 and checked into the hotel.  We just stayed at the Ramada down there.  It was nice, nothing amazing but nice.  After checking in we went shopping at the outlets.  We did A LOT of shopping this weekend.  All for Dan I might add.  His clothes are all getting really, really worn out.  He doesn't buy new clothes for himself as often as I do so he definitely needed stuff.  After shopping it was late and Pizza Factory where we wanted to go to dinner was closed so we went to the really fancy restaurant called Chili's.  Ha, ha!  It was good but we were both super tired so we just wanted to eat and go to bed.

Friday morning we got up when we wanted (heaven) and went to work out at the gym for an hour or so.  After the workout, we went to the temple and did a session.

The temple is gorgeous but we were commenting on how outdated it was.  It is the oldest temple so I guess that could be why. :)  After the temple we stopped at the ever popular drink stop Swig to try a dirty Diet Coke.  Just Diet Coke with coconut flavoring.  I loved it but Dan wasn't that impressed.  I have pictures but they are on my phone and I haven't loaded them on the computer yet, FAIL!

After lunch, I headed down to the pool.  I have dreamed of laying out and relaxing at the pool in the warm sun without interruption for YEARS!  Years, I tell you.  It was heaven, honestly.  I was in a state of euphoria for most of this trip.  Listened to Dr. Laura on my ipod, read a book, applied sun lotion.  Oh heavens, I really have no words.  Dan hung out in the cold hotel room b/c it was HOT!  I had to jump in to cool off, like, every 20-30 min.  After the pool we got ready and headed out for dinner and a movie.  We went and saw 'Now you see me.'  We both actually really liked it.  Oh and we got in free with gift cards we had gotten for our WEDDING!  Yeah, 6 years old.  We don't go to movies often, obviously.  We finally made it to Pizza Factory for dinner Friday night.  Seriously, their breadsticks, yumm-o!!  I also really love a great salad bar, loved this meal.

After dinner we went shopping again!  I think I did get a couple things this time but not as much as Dan.  I was even getting sick of shopping we shopped so much for him.  It helps that I am a solid 20 pounds overweight right now and nothing fits.  :-)
It is amazing how much you can get done when kids aren't in tow.  We would plan stuff and then get it done super fast b/c we way overestimated how long it would take b/c we were so used to having kids with us.
Saturday we woke up and decided to go on a hike instead of going to the gym.  I may or may not have mentioned on this blog before how much I really do NOT like hiking.  I try to have a good attitude but, blah, I just think it's boring.  Walking, walking, walking, in the heat, BO-RING!  But Dan loves to hike so I thought I could sacrifice.  I also thought I would like it more if kids weren't with us.  Wrong, but we still had fun.  We went to the Red Cliffs.  It was gorgeous, I have to give it that.  We didn't know you had to pay to get in and it was $5.  We only had $4 cash so we had to stop by on our way home Sunday to deposit another dollar.  Honest people we are. ;-)

Dan estimated that I made it maybe 10 minutes on our hike before I started complaining.  Ha, ha,  ha, this just makes me laugh b/c it is so true.  In my defense it was getting toasty.  We had taken our time this morning with getting up and breakfast b/c we were alone and we could right!  So it was 10:30 ish when we started and it's St. George so, HOT!

Dan tried to talk me into hiking up this steep rock with him but I assured him that was a bad idea.  That was confirmed when I slipped and fell in the water on a much smaller rock on the way back down.  I'm carrying extra weight and my balance is off right now okay?!  It was pathetic really and we had a good laugh about it during and afterwards.  As did the other hikers.  Embarassing!  I think Dan will stick with his parents or siblings as hiking buddies from now on.  Maybe someday I will like it??? Not holding my breath on that one.
After the hike we stopped at Swig again and Dan still wasn't impressed while I quite enjoyed mine.  I went to the pool, again, and Dan went golfing.  Just to the putting green but he enjoyed himself and so did I.  I should also mention the pool was never busy, awesomeness!!!  After pool/golf time we showered and took ourselves to the ever unique Olive Garden Restaurant.  :)  It was actually really good and we enjoyed our time together.  More shopping for Dan and then another movie.  This time we went to see 'The Croods.'  It was cute but I fell asleep at the beginning so I guess I wasn't too impressed.
We both wanted a cold treat after the movie so we hit up Sonic and it was so delicious. Dan got some orange slushy that was super delicious and I got a Diet Grape Limeade.  Seriously, so good.  I am very glad we don't have a Sonic by our house b/c I feel like I would stop for drinks way too often.

Sunday we just got up, had breakfast packed up and we were on the road.
And look how happy and relaxed I am.  Dan, reading, eating, sunshine, shopping all without children for 3 solid days.  It does a body and soul good folks.  I was anxious to get back to the kids and to relieve Mom S and Madeline of their duties but it was WONDERFUL!!  The whole time Dan and I both kept saying, why did it take us so long to do this?  It definitely needs to happen more often.  Of course we will soon have 3 kids that need to be watched so that can get a bit tricky.  I guess you could also call this a Babymoon because we won't be going anywhere, anytime soon once this baby comes.
We had such a great time and are both so glad we finally got it scheduled and went.

I'm so glad you guys finally got a nice getaway! Also I'm a closet Dr. Laura fan and am so sad her program was canceled. Seriously I was just thinking about her today! I'm a total nerd but will have to look into her podcast. I'm a bit excited! So....when do you want to get together? Soon please.
