4th of July Festivities

It has been a busy couple of days around here.  We started our Independence Day celebration on Wednesday night with a BBQ at Clark residence.  They are always great hosts and of course I got no pictures at the actual BBQ.  Dan was too busy sitting and enjoying himself while I chased the kids around but I digress.  ;-) (Good thing he never reads our blog, ha!)
I did manage to get a picture of the delicious dish I took.  I love these chips.  It's just tortillas with melted butter and cinnamon and sugar on them.  Bake @ 350 for around 10 minutes and done.  Delicious.  The fruit is just cut up strawberries, apples and kiwis with a little added sugar.  I just like the chips plain myself.  Always a crowd pleaser though.

After dinner we walked up to Eaglewood to get ready for the fireworks.  I love this picture below b/c it captures real life.  Me, trying to get a picture with somebody from my family and Ellie wanting nothing to do with it.  Notice her bum and kicking feet, classic.  Little stink bug!

These are the best pictures I managed to get of the kids up there.  They were too busy running around having fun with their cousins.

Terrible picture of Sam but serves him right for not looking at the camera.  I think he may be grabbing himself too???  He kept looking at the top of my head for some strange reason.  Seriously, Ellie, you can't just look at me for two seconds?  She was ignoring me.  Cute outfit though, huh?!

We were really nervous about Ellie and the fireworks. She hates loud noises, I mean HATES.  If she remembers that a bathroom has those loud hand blowers to dry your hands she refuses to go in and will stand outside yelling "too loud, too loud."  Then I have to drag her into the bathroom kicking and screaming so Sam and sometimes I can use the bathroom.  It's ridiculous really, happened at Costco just the other day.  Hates the weed eater, lawn mower (will not be outside while Dan is doing it.)  Hates the vacuum, the blender.  Every morning when I make my protein shake and she sees me get the blender out she yells "no mommy, too loud, I go in my room, tell me when you're done."  And that is exactly what we do every single morning.  She is just super sensitive to loud noises so we were a bit nervous as to how she would take the fireworks.  I am pleased to announce that she LOVED them.  Even more then Sam who asked me every 10 min. for 4 hours leading up to the fireworks when they were going to start.  Poor kid was so tired that he was kind of falling asleep on my lap and was complaining that the fireworks were waking him up.  Ha!  It was a lot of fun and Eaglewood put on a great fireworks show. It was just a late, late night.  I had a lot of cramping when we got home b/c it was a lot of walking and carrying heavy children around all night.  But I drank a lot of water and laid down and they went away.  Typical for normal pregnant woman but I seriously hardly ever cramp or contract.  So it was an interesting experience for me. :)

The kids slept in great but then missed the annual flag raising ceremony that our neighbors across the street do every year.  Dan and I sure enjoyed ourselves though and they had this cool firetruck come there too.

They serve a delicious breakfast after they have a short program and it is always delicious.  Pancakes for the win! I'm pretty sure I could eat pancakes for dinner every night and be a happy and chubby girl. :)  Too sweet for me in the morning but I love them for dinner.  Which is really unfortunate b/c eating all that sugar before bed is probably not a good idea.  Anyhoo, moving on.

We headed up to the Kaysville Parade and it was great as always. Dan hates the parade so I told him to go take care of himself and me and the kids would have a great time.  :)  And that is just what happened.  I really hate crowds but this parade is too long of a tradition for me and the lady friends.  Sam got some great loot but Ellie wasn't that impressed.  She was super tired from being up so late the night before so she pretty much hung back with grandma and grandpa in the shade.  Perfect for me!

We had to get the annual girlfriends picture taken before Lynds had to take off with her little boy who was breaking out in hives, yikes! Seriously, I have no idea why the thought didn't occur to me to switch Ellie to my other hip so it was a frontal picture and not a gigantic, awkward, terrible side shot.  This did remind me though that I have taken NO belly shots of this pregnancy and I think I'm at 27, 28 weeks?  I'm not entirely sure.  But seriously, horrible picture of me, great of the other ladies.  And I really need to get on that belly shot idea. Or not, I'm huge already and I still have 3 months to go. Sigh and moving on...

I dropped Sam off at the Simmons to hang with Dan while I took Ellie home for a nap.  She finally took a great 3 hour nap while I got stuff done around the house.  Then we headed back up to my parents for a BBQ and some fireworks.  Ellie actually did surprisingly well with the sparklers.  I had severe anxiety the whole time they were handling fire but they did pretty good.  Ellie touched the hot end twice but I caught her in enough time that no severe damage was done to her poor little fingers.

They did the fireworks before it got too dark b/c we were heading home to go to a neighborhood party and the rest of the clan was going up to see the fireworks at Davis High.  Once Uncle Toby starting doing some big ones this is what the kids did.  I don't blame them, they were loud.

And here is my attempt at the one single family shot we got all night.  Um, for reals family, nobody could tell me that my hair looked out of control and I looked really tired and haggard?  I mean, come on!  Please excuse my appearance on these.  I truly was exhausted and I blame my family for not saying anything.  The nerve!

We got home around 9:30 from my parents and thought we would walk up the street to the neighborhood party which we could tell was hopping.  There were a TON of people there and a TON of fireworks going off.  The fireworks were waaaay too close to all the people in my opinion.  It was loud and I was extremely anxious about the whole situation.  The kids had a meltdown within about 10 minutes of being there so it was a failed attempt but I was more then ready for them to be in bed so I was fine with it.  I hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day!  I am super grateful for all that have served and continue to serve this country to allow us our freedoms.  I have witnessed the sacrifice made by just one military family and it is AMAZING!!  Thanks Tennysons you are all a great example to me.
Phew!  That was an exhausting couple of days.  I was definitely ready for a more laid back Friday which it was.  My niece gets baptized tomorrow so I'll update you on how that goes.  For now, I have blogged enough tonight.  I'm  ready to go read my book until my eyes close which will probably be about 1 1/2 pages into reading.  It's no wonder it takes me forever to read.  But look at me blogging about something that happened yesterday.  I really am trying to get better.
