Zoo, Sea World and the Beach!!

Okay, I am determined to finish blogging about this vacation.  Friday afternoon we went the World Famous San Diego Zoo.  We went later in the afternoon so lot's of the animals were asleep but we still saw a lot and had a great time.
I love hippos, not sure why but I love them.  We got to watch this guy swim around a while.  They are huge! The San Diego Zoo really is a great zoo.  If you haven't ever been there I highly encourage you go there next time you're in So. Cal.

All right so I got 3 out of the 6 kids looking at me so I'll take it.  I didn't even get the bronze hippo (is it even a hippo? I can't remember) they were sitting on in the picture.  Lame me! Oh well.

Sam has gotten really good at taking pictures as of late.  Look at that cute smile and the sweet zebras in back.

The kids loved climbing in and out of these holes by the polar bear exhibit.  The polar bears were hiding but that's all right b/c we got a close up at Sea World that I was very happy about.
Sam posing nicely on the baby  elephant.  He thought that was pretty cool.  However, he didn't seem too interested in the elephants at all.  I actually really like the elephants.  Sam's favorite was the monkey's for sure.  I think he liked them so much because they were so active.  Jumping all over the place and playing.  Compared to lot's of the other animals that were napping.  He just loved the monkey's.

Hanging out with cousins Tyler and Josh.

I got a little grumpy at the zoo.  I can't remember exactly why.  I know part of it was that I was hungry and you do not want me to get hungry.  Grump-master! I think I was just tired and worn out from walking around.  I still loved the zoo and we had a great time.  We capped the day off with take-out from Chili's and it was delicious!
Saturday we went to Sea World.  I had no idea I would love Sea World so much.  I really, really liked it.

Sam had a great time playing with Uncle Mooney outside of Sea World while we were waiting to get in.

Look how close that polar bear is?  It was sitting right by the window which the kids and myself thought was pretty awesome.  Notice Sam with his arm around Mia, he's a lover I tell you.
I think part of the reason Sam loved Sea World so much is because they had these windows and the animals would come right by the glass.  He just loved it.  And I quite enjoyed watching the animals swim and play in the water as well.

Super cute picture of my boys, I know!

Yep, what did I say he is a lover.  At least Maddie is smiling this time.  Double hugs below with Grandma and Daddy!

We went to a couple of fun shows.  One was a fun dolphin show with some acrobats and that was pretty sweet.  And then we also went to the classic Shammoo show.  I actually like both of them and Sam sat and watch most of them as well.

This was at the end of the Shark Exhibit.  I wasn't as impressed with the Shark Exhibit as I was with the Arctic zone where the polar bears and stuff were but it was still pretty sweet.

Oh my word, I love this picture.  Sam was bossing Maddie around and she would just put her hand on her hips and tell him something.  I'm not even sure what she was saying but it sure looks like it was pretty funny.  At least Sam was getting a kick out of it.

Sam really loved the aquariums because again of being able to be so close to the fish that were swimming around.  He really liked this turtle.  He kept going back to the tank where the turtles were swimming around.  He was talking up a storm in these aquariums telling us all about what he thought.  We of course only caught a few of the words but it sure was cute how excited he was getting.

On our way out we stopped by the Shamoo tank and I really like it.  It was fun to watch the whales swim around.  Sam like it but he was a little nervous when they swam right by the glass where he was standing.

Saturday night Dan and I went on a date and left Sam with the rest of the family.  They went and  watched my nephew play in a soccer tournament.  We went to a delicious Mexican restaurant where I ate way to much.  I'm not kidding I was really sick due to the amount of food I ate.  I'm going to move on b/c I'd rather not talk about it. :-)
Sunday my Dad, Danny, Kath and Darrell took off to go home.  I went to both of my sisters sacrament meeting and then went to Robie and Michelle's to relax.  Sam took a nap and I got royalty treatment.  Michelle made me a veggie sandwich which was really, really good.  And then I got a pedicure.  My nieces soaked my feet, massaged them and then Michelle painted my toe nails.  It felt and looked awesome! I still have the same color on my feet.  I kind of felt bad b/c everybody else wanted a turn but then my mom and the Chambers came over for dinner so they didn't have enough time.  Sorry guys but THANK YOU for the great treatment, I loved it!
Monday we pretty much just hung out and then in the afternoon most of the family went to the Mormon Batallion.  I didn't want to wake Sam up so they went without us.  I think they had a great time though.  Tuesday we went to the beach and it was a beautiful day!

Sammy and Maddie playing in the sand and loving every second of it.  I wish I didn't care if my body was covered in the sand.

Me and Sammy had a great time playing in the ocean.  He had so much fun.

Look at that face.  He was having so much fun standing in that hole and having everybody pour buckets of water in there.  He just thought it was the greatest thing ever.

He loved to get water in the bucket and then take it back to dump it in the previous mentioned hole that I think Ashley or Lauren dug.

Looks like we have a future bogey boarder.  Too bad we don't live closer to the ocean.
Man I love this kid!

Well, I loved him on Tuesday.  On Wednesday I thought I was going to injure him. I would NOT recommend driving 15 hours with an almost 2 year old.  Really, it was terrible.  As I've mentioned many times before I am not a patient person.  I didn't have Dan with me who usually helps me entertain Sam and help me chill out when I freak out so I was pretty much on my own.  Let me just say that he slept about 20 min. of the entire 15 hours.  Yes, folks 20 MINUTES!!!  I cried probably 7 times and I'm sure Mike and my Mom were both ready to throw us out the back and leave us on the road.  As to not dwell on this terrible and quite possibly longest day of my life left me just say I honestly don't think I have ever been happier to be home.  There were times I thought I would not make it.  Oh heaven help me forget that day.
It was a great trip besides the drive home and I cannot say THANK YOU enough to my parents who made it all possible.  THANK YOU Dad and Mom!  You guys are the best and we are so lucky and grateful to you for all that you supplied on this trip.  We had so much fun with the entire family (minus Liz, Toby and fam who were greatly missed).  We hope we have many more years of fun filled family vacations. Love you guys!!

great recap - I had not even heard of the horrendous drive home - why did it take so long? I hope that was at least to try and help the boredom, not because you were actually stuck on the road that whole time!! ouch. You are welcome any time for our spa services :)
