Our Valentines Day was very uneventful. I spent hours on my feet cooking and I am not over exaggerating. And poor Danny had to work all day. Literally from 8 am to 5, on Saturday, lame! More about his long working hours in another post. I made this delicious dessert for part of Danny's Valentines gift. He has been talking about this trifle for a while now. He wanted his favorite chocolate cake for the cake part of the trifle. This cake and the frosting were all made from scratch, thank you very much. It's a lot of work making stuff from scratch. This picture may not do it justice but it really was delicious. It was chocolate cake, white chocolate pudding, heath pieces and oreos and then cool whip. I repeated the layers a couple times. I'm not a huge chocolate cake fan so I ate around the chocolate cake to the pudding, cool whip and health pieces. Dan was very pleased so of course it was all worth the hard work.
After the trifle was done I made these sugar cookies for my young women. I had a fair share myself. They were so good; thanks for the recipe Kell. However, I must not have added enough flour b/c the dough was super sticky even after sitting in the fridge all night. Rolling the cookies out to cut them was not pleasant. Sam was screaming, I had dough all over my hands. It was a mess but once they were all cut out and baked I felt much better. Cooking is a lot of work but I really do enjoy it. I apologize for the quality of these pictures. Flash photography can be so harsh sometimes. My camera's memory card has some error and refuses to take pictures. I am REALLY missing my camera. I didn't realize how much I loved it until I had to use Danny's old one.
Danny and I had a rule that we could only spend $10 for Valentines gifts. I told him to not get me flowers. Sure, flowers are pretty but they just die. I feel like it is a waste of money. After my long day of cooking and his long day at work we were both pooped! We exchanged gifts. He renewed my cooking light magazine subscription and I got him a couple running shirts. I went a little over budget but oh well. We ordered Cafe Rio take out and just spent the night at home. It was a pretty good day but nothing too exciting.
I ordered a new memory card for my camera and I am anxiously waiting for it to come. I know I mentioned this above but I am really, really missing my camera. I take pictures of Sam nearly every day so I'm feeling a little lost without it. Lame, I know. I don't know why some of these paragraphs are underlined and I can't seem to find the button to take it off. I'm sure it is right in front of my face but I'm done looking. Happy late Valentines Day!
