I just threw in a couple random pics. b/c I don't even like reading my own blog when there aren't a couple picture to look at. :-)
About a month and a half or so ago Sam woke up screaming in the middle of the night that his ear hurt. Nothing we did would calm him down. We gave him some medicine and Dan gave him a blessing and he calmed down shortly after. We never heard about it again until about a week ago. He started saying that his ear hurt and his ear was red and anything touching the outer ear hurt him. He had still been sleeping decent but complaining about it. By Monday we could tell it was bad and I got him into the doctor. When the doctor first looked into his ear he said that there was some wax build up and he wanted to get in there with his tool to see if it was wet or pussy. In my defense I do clean his ears frequently but I hardly get anything out. Doctor said I was probably pushing it back into his ear. Nice work 'eh! Anywho, I pinned Sam to my chest while the doctor dug around pulling out wax and puss. Sam was screaming his head off and yelling at the doctor 'go away, go away.' It was torture and I nearly broke down myself. I was trying to say things to calm him down but the doctor told me "this hurts like hell" so I took that as a hint to let him scream because he was in ALOT of pain. Yep, he had a ruptured eardrum and the fluid had started to run down into his ear canal which was causing all the pain.
The next couple days were long and made me really, really appreciate a very healthy child. Sam has been very healthy and man am I grateful. I hate having a sick child it's just terrible. Anyway, he slept terrible Monday and Tuesday night and then things got better. Thank heaven for modern medicine is all I have to say. I was supposed to give him ear drops 4 times a day and 4 drops each time. Oh and the doctor told me it would be best if he would lay on his side for 5-10 minutes so that the drops could seep in HA, HA, HA!! Seriously he's 2! The first couple of days his ear was so sore I did the drops twice and only got two drops in with him laying on his side for about oh, a nano second. I had to pin him down just to get those in, HATED IT!
He also hated the Amoxicillin and I had to give that to him twice a day. I started this thing that we give some of his plastic animals the medicine first before he gets it. i would give them the medicine and then we had a glass of water and I would hand them to Sam and he would give them their drink. First it started with two little animals and then by the end of the week it was like 5 or 6 and took a good 10-15 minutes to give all the animals and Sam his medicine. It worked though, he has taken it without fighting it too much. Misery loves company I guess.
He is back to his normal self and Dan and I are both very, very happy about that.
