And the mother of the year award goes to....

Anybody but me.

It may not look too bad in these pictures but Sam got PLOWED over at Young Womens last night. It was our New Beginnings and so it is suppose to be a nice evening with a nice program. Not the best thing for a very busy 17 month old. He lasted through the opening song and the prayer and then he was off. He knows where the gym is and he knows that is where you play basketball. So he ran to the gym doors and was literally yelling "ball, ball, ball" over and over and over again. Screaming in between b/c I at first was telling him no. I brought a ball for him to play with but that just wasn't good enough. He threw it down and said no and kept screaming ball. So I opened the gym doors so he could look inside and watch the deacons play basketball for a minute. Don't ask me why the deacons were playing poison for there activity but that is an entirely different subject. So I let him watch the kids and leaders play and he was staying out the way. I tried to take him out and back into our New Beginnings. Quite honestly if I'm going to be missing YW I was just going to take Sam home. Anyway, he wasn't having it, he kept screaming ball and to avoid being disruptive to everybody trying to enjoy their evening I took him back out and let him watch the boys. There were two boys who have little brothers that are Sams age so when  I took him back in there they were playing with Sam and they all seemed to be having a great time. So I asked if they were ok if I ran back into YW for a few minutes while they played with him. They said sure so I ran back in and was enjoying listening to the program. I kept going in and out of the gym to make sure he was ok. One of the boys little brothers was in there now so Sam and little Owen were playing and a couple of the deacons were playing with them. I thought this was a great deal. Until I heard Sam screaming. I ran out and what did I see? My son with blood pouring out of his nose and blood pooled in his mouth. I was trying not to freak out b/c it was clear the the leader that plowed him over felt terrible and wasn't sure what to do. We were both running around trying to get tissues and stop the bleeding and find out what exactly happened. One of the YW moms came out and really helped calm me down. She use to work at a triage desk so she was looking over him and helping us find out what was wrong. His nose appeared to be swelling and he had a cut by his eye as well. I think what happened was he cut that little flap of skin that is between your gums and your lips and then smashed his nose pretty good. I think he was pretty freaked out by what happened, obviously.  But once I got him home, got him some Motrin and rocked him in the chair he started to calm down. By the time Dan got home, he was back to his usual self. Such a relief! I take the blame for leaving my child with a bunch of 12-13 year old kids and their leader. Seriously, I feel terrible about it. I am so glad that is wasn't worse. The leader that plowed him down actually just stopped by about 30 minutes ago to check on him. He felt really bad and wanted to make sure he was ok. Super nice of him I thought. I guess he thought the kids were over in a different area. You know how fast little kids run around he this guy is super tall so he just didn't see him.
I totally freaked Dan out as well. I was crying when I called him b/c I just felt so bad. All I said was "Sam got run over". I guess that wasn't the best way to start the conversation. I quickly explained what happened and he calmed down. I told him that if Sam had really been run over by a car or something I would have been FREAKING out. Anyway, what a night. I thought it was going to be a rough night but he slept in until 6:30 (bless you child) and he seems to be doing well today.

Oh Em!! You are not a bad mother at all... Freak, if it were my kid, I'm pretty sure I would have let him play with the boys as well:) I think it is quite hysterical that you told Danny that he got ran over though... I was just picturing that whole conversation in my mind and had to giggle a little:) Don't feel bad, and if nothing else, he will have some sweet battle wounds to brag to his girlie friends about... Chicks dig scars, right?:)

OH, that trooper!

Worse things have happened to all of us--don't worry! Ask Danny about cutting his lip while at the mall with my mom and Dean...

oh no, not the frenulum (ok, can you tell I just wanted to sound cool for knowing the name of the flap of skin under your lip? :)) So sorry for the poor kid - accidents happen, he probably won't hold it against you (Brooke doesn't even remember when I made her walk around with a broken wrist for a couple of days because I didn't believe her)

It could have happened just as easily if you were right there. Ryker had something similar happen to him over the summer except that I was right there and felt terrible. The mouth bleeds more tons so it makes the injury seem worse than it really is. I was ready to take him to the hospital, but I called Debbie and she told me how much the mouth bleeds and also how quickly it also heals. I am sure given a few days he will be fine. You are a great mother!

OH my, I can totally relate to the way you felt. When Kenzi fell down the stairs and cracked her tooth in half and exposed the nerve, but I had no idea and gave her a hot dog! Oh dear. Those things just happen. You would not be a normal mom if they didn't! You are a great mom!

Bwahaha. Classic. At least it wasn't you that did the damage. Tyler ran into Mia a few years ago and she ended up having to get her 2 front teeth crowned because the teeth died. No blood though.
