Good news and bad news

Well, the great news is that we gave our 30 days notice to this rat hole of an apartment we live in. I am SOOOOO excited! It really isn't a rat hole it has been good to us for the 2 1/2 years we have been here but really, its time to move on to bigger and better things. The bad news is, we put our 30 days notice in. We are just hoping and praying we get everything done in time. So, on that note, here are the current updates.
We got our new front and back doors on. I think they look great but not as great as the windows are going to look. I am dying to get the new windows in. They are installing them Thursday and honestly, I cannot wait. I just know it is going to make the home look so much better.

Do you happen to notice anything missing from the backyard? That's right, the nasty shed is gone! Not to mention all the other white trash things that were back there. Thanks to Dad S, Trent and Tyler we were able to get two loads of junk out to the dump Saturday among many other things. So thankful for help! It looks so much better without the shed back there and of course seems so much more open. I am looking into a way to clean the brick but that doesn't need to be done to make the home liveable so I'm not going to stress about that until everything else is done. We really need to do something with that crooked overhang above the door, just nasty looking. Yet agin, trying not to worry about the little things right now.

Sold this little puppy for $100 on KSL. My phone was ringing off the hook for this thing. Someone was leaving a message about wanting it when I was talking to somebody telling them somebody else was on their way down to pick it up. Crazy! I love this KSL thing. You get paid for stuff you don't need AND you get somebody else to haul it out for you, it's a win win.

Danny and his brother Dean got this plywood laid on the bathroom floors. It took a good 3 or so hours one night but it looks great. The floors were rotten underneath when we ripped the other plywood out so it had to be done before the plumber came back to do his magic.

Saturday was a very busy day of course. The Plumber and the Electrician were there most of the day. The plumber was showing us the pipes he was replacing and they were nasty. Luckily we won't have to spend tons of money on Drano anymore to clean the pipes now like we do in our apartment. Got the tub in. This is a cast iron tub and it is so heavy. It weighs about 400 pounds. It took 4 grown men to move it into the bathroom. It is so nice to have it out of the front room.

Oh wait, I forgot about Friday night. My mom watched Sam while I ran to get our paint at Sherwin Williams. Thanks for the amazing discount Barnes family! I took Sam up to Mom S house while Dan and I worked at the house. I washed the bedroom walls to get ready to prime them and Danny worked on knocking out the walls in the kitchen. Not really the walls but if you look really close at the top picture below you can kind of see what I am talking about. I am realizing I didn't get a great picture of it before it was knocked out. There use to be a little overhang on both sides of the kitchen. Before we get our new cabinets we had to knock these out and get it sheet rocked to look like it was never there. This is going to give us even more cabinet space, awesome! But a ton of work for Danny. He worked so hard Friday night and he was filthy.

Okay, back to Saturday. As mentioned before Dad S, Trent and Tyler all came to help. They got the trailer full of junk again. I thought for sure we were done with loads to the dump but not so. Trent and Dad S took it to the dump to get rid of all of it. This helped so much and we really appreciate it. I took Sam up to my parents and I came down and started washing walls AGAIN! This place is filthy. I think the bedrooms are ready to paint though. If we can keep the doors shut and the dust out. Good luck right? In the process of the electrician working he noticed that there was no sheet rock behind the rock paneling in the basement. Apparently it is a huge fire hazard. We were originally just going to paint over the wood paneling. We have heard that it actually looks pretty cool when you do that. Well, after Danny had long discussions he decided that we should rip out the wood paneling in the basement and sheet rock it all. Was this a big surprise and something we weren't planning on doing? It sure was! But is it something that we will be happy we did in the long run? I think so. We are probably going to hire somebody to sheet rock it all just b/c we don't have the time. Hopefully we can find somebody that will do it for a good, cheap, fair price. We all know that projects always end up being more time and more money then you plan on and this house is no different. It seems like the expenses keep adding up and up and up. We aren't doing it to the entire basement just one of the bedrooms and the family room. The biggest rooms of course.

Both the plumber and electrician still have work to do. The electrician got the old, nasty fan taken out of the kitchen and the 4 canned lights done. I love them! Kind of hard to see in the picture but hopefully you get the idea. He is also putting canned lighting in the front room. They didn't have any lights in the front room (our apartment doesn't either, we just use lamps) and it drives Danny and I crazy so it will be nice to have good, bright lights in there as well. We are really pleased with the work these guys have done and they are great, funny guys as well. Hopefully they finish all of their work this week so we can get going on painting and tiling.

I had my mom take Sam over to the Simmons around 1 just so my parents didn't have to watch him all day. After my mom dropped him she just showed up at the house, I totally wasn't expecting her. It was a great surprise and she helped me finish washing the walls. It doesn't sound like a big project but it really is a pain. THANKS MOM!! Actually a huge thanks needs to go out to A LOT of people. Thanks to Mom S and N for continuing to watch Sam. Thanks to Dad S, Trent, Tyler, Shelley for sacrificing her husband all day with two young kids, Dad N for watching Sam and Sam for being such a good little boy being tossed to and fro. I am sure I am forgetting somebody. It is amazing how much help can make the job go faster.
So, we did get a lot accomplished but we still have a TON to go. Danny is super busy at work and is taking the first part of the CPA exam on Saturday. Keep him in your prayers. I am so thankful for such a hard working husband. He takes such good care of us.
We have a very busy week ahead of us. Continuing to get bids on insulation in the attic and bids on the drywall work for the basement. Rain gutters need to be put up ASAP and the dry wall needs to be put up in the kitchen. The list goes on and on but I will stop there b/c I don't feel like typing it all out. More updates to come! You can especially look forward to an update Friday or Saturday when the new windows get installed. I have been waiting a good 3 weeks for those bad boys.
Wow! This was a long one.
