If this doesn't scream white trash I don't know what does. Totally nasty shed in the backyard, wires running all over the place (I guess you can't see the wires in this photo). Toilet, tub, shopping cart just hanging out on the back porch. Man, we really have our work cut out for us.
The bathrooms have been gutted as previously mentioned and we found a rotted floor underneath the sub-flooring, great I know. Our goal Saturday is to get the bathrooms ready for the plumber to come back and put the tub in and so we can get the floors tiled. Also, the asbestos removal will be taken care of on Saturday. I actually don't think it is going to take very long. When we got the ceiling wet and took the sample to get tested it scraped off super, super easy. I think the taping up plastic part is going to take the longest so I am planning on going and putting that up tomorrow night when Sam is in bed. Then on Saturday I will just have to put on my trusty respirator get the sprayer on my back and start scraping. We will both be relieved when that is done. Then we can get the canned lighting in and the painting done down there. That is all we have to do down there before the carpet goes in so that is nice. I actually had a guy come give us an estimate on how much it would cost to pay somebody to remove the asbestos for us. I thought it was going to be thousands of dollars but it came back at about $1200. Not as bad as I thought but we have to remodel the entire house so we thought this might be somewhere we can save. Not to mention the asbestos guy didn't seem to think removing it was a big deal at all. I don't know if he was trying to tell me that I would be wasting my money hiring him or what but he just went on and on about how dangerous people think it is and that the chances of actually getting a lung related disease from asbestos is super low. He also went on and on about how asbestos is everywhere and as long as you don't breath it on a regular basis you should be fine. So, I feel fine doing it on our own. Just time consuming. We also want to get the kitchen cabinets and the entire kitchen gutted on Saturday. We are putting the old cabinets down in the laundry room. We need to get the tile in the kitchen before they can put the cabinets in so we need to get going on that. So much to do, so little time. I can't wait though, I think it is going to look great!
Oh and Danny went and picked the slab of granite we will be having in the kitchen and on our bathroom vanities. I was going to go meet him down at the granite place but my car is in the shop so I didn't have a car. We had chosen the color that we wanted but each slab of granite is a little different so we just had to choose the specific slab we wanted. Anyway, more things continue to be crossed off the list and more things seem to be added. Funny how that works.
Here is a shot of the backyard from the back porch. It's a pretty decent size. I think it is a little bit under a quarter acre. It has a GREAT spot for a garden so I am super excited about that for next year. We also want to put a fence up next spring but we will see if we have the money for it. Tons of people in the ward keep telling me what a great big yard it is. I guess the yards around here must be small. Anyway, are you sick of hearing about this house yet? I hope not, b/c you will be getting the play by play of the remodel. Mostly b/c I want to remember this whole process so I am forcing myself to blog about it.
