WARNING: Swim diapers are for swimming only!

Okay so I don't know where I was during mothers school when they taught you that you should never leave a child in a swim diaper while they sleep. But I sure wish I would have been there that day. The story:

I took my niece and nephew to cherry hill yesterday. Sam was with us for the first couple of hours and then I took him to my parents to take a nap and took my niece Carmen back to the hill to have some fun. Sam took a great 2 hour nap and we came back soon after he woke up. My mom was at their house, I didn't just leave him there. :) Anyway, I quickly got him and headed home so that we could meet our realtor. We didn't really like the house but that is just a side note. Anyway, we have just been really, really busy. Those posts will be coming soon but I had to preface the story with how busy we have been and why I didn't notice that we were completely out of diapers. When we got home Dan took my nephew to the movie and I gave Sam a bath. When I went to put a diaper on him I realized that we were completely out. I checked every diaper bag, swim bag, under the crib where we keep the diapers. Everywhere there could possibly be a diaper I looked but no luck. So, I put the only diaper on him that we had, a swim diaper. Looking back, I should have put him in the swim diaper and gone to the store to get diapers. But I was in the middle of cooking dinner, getting him dressed (which is a complete chore b/c the kid doesn't want to hold still), getting him ready for bed, etc. So I thought "what's the harm in him sleeping in a swim diaper for one night?" What a stupid question. There is a lot of harm in it. He woke up around 5:30 to eat and the kid was soaking wet with pee. Sooo gross. I still didn't have diapers so I put him back in the crib wet. So sad, I felt like a crappy mom. I couldn't stop thinking about what the poor kid was sleeping in. Anyway, on my way home from the gym I picked up some diapers so when he woke up for the day I was ready to dress him properly. When he did wake up, his outfit was completely soaked and there was pee all over the crib and all over his stuffed animals that he lays on.
*Random side note: Sam has really started showing a strong interest in stuffed animals. He loves them and plays with them in his crib for 15+ minutes after he wakes up from naps and in the morning.
He went directly into the bath and his bedding and anything affected went straight into the washer. I'm sure this is the beginning of many bed wettings but this one was totally my fault. Please don't ever be as retarded as me and think a swim diaper would be fine for the night. IT'S NOT!

Wow, what a bad mom! Just teasing. Sounds like something I would do.Luckily I learned that those diapers don't hold much pee at all while we were on the boat and not in bed.But your story sure made me laugh!

As you will notice, mothering is a constant learning experience!

Hilarious, Em. I could have written a blog entry back in the day when Tyler and Josh were little trying to use a regular diaper when I should have used a swim diaper--suffice it to say they break into pretty nasty wet pieces quicker than I would have thought and it's a huge pain to clean off boat flooring.

I like to block out the fact that they do not hold pee in whenever i am at a pool with a bunch of little kids - its just holding poop in (and only if you're lucky!).. good lesson to learn, right?

I wish that I had read this earlier today. We went to a swim party and I had to change Ryker's diaper while we were there so I just put on another swim diaper (which he did not get wet)and it was past his nap time so we quickly went home and I stripped him down and figured I would give him a bath after his nap, had I know the swim diaper was NOT good to sleep in I would have done it before. I had the same wet mess when Ryker woke up, he went straight to the tub. They should put a warning on the package, then again I threw that away.
