A work in progress

I really enjoy cooking. Sure, some days I wish that dinner was just made for me and I didn't have to worry about it but for the most part I really enjoy making it. I have been wanting to make homemade calzone for a while just to see if I could do it. So last week I tried it and it turned out "pretty good" as Dan put it. I didn't actually eat any of the calzone myself b/c I had a shower I went to that night. So when I was driving home I called Dan and asked him how it was. I have to be honest, I was really hoping for a "Wow Em, it was so good, I loved it." Instead I actually got a short pause and then a "it was pretty good." I am married to a food critic so I really value Dan's opinion on food. I often times call him a food snob, I really think he is one. Probably because he has had great meals growing up and is used to delicious food. Thanks a lot Mom S. I really have a long way to go until I am as good of a cook as both of our mothers.
(*Just as a quick side note, I decided to call my mom Mom N and Dan's mom Mom S. Just so you know! :-)
Anyway, I made the dough from scratch but I guess where I went wrong was with the canned pizza sauce. That's what the recipe called for but Dan didn't like it at all. I will be using a different sauce next time.
It actually wasn't that hard to make. Well, it took me a while to get the dough done, raised and then rolled out. I had to take care of Sam somewhere in there so my dough was raising way big b/c I left it for so long. It still seemed to turn out okay. I figure practice makes perfect so I will keep trying to make new things and calzones again.

Oh and for the record, I did try some calzone the next day and I was actually pretty proud of myself, I thought it was good. However, I guess it wasn't good enough for leftovers because I just threw away the other calzone. What a waste, I HATE wasting food. Anwyay, blah, blah, blah.

Mmmm, looks pretty impressive. Hate to see good leftovers go to waste, we don't usually have that problem around here ;-)

Em, next time try using a marinara sauce. I am with Dan, I hate canned pizza sauce....gross. You can find marinara sauce at Walmart where the spaghetti sauce is.

those look pretty good to me - I'm married to someone who will eat almost anything, so I almost wish I had a more honest view sometimes of how dinner really was!
