We went in bright and early to the hospital on October 4th to be induced and I was pretty excited/nervous at the same time. I really, REALLY wanted to know if it was a boy or a girl.
It was pretty slow moving, I'm not going to lie. Of course, looking back it wasn't that long but when you're anxious to have a baby the day seems super long. I got my awesome epidural after a while of suffering and it was heaven. I told myself ahead of time I was getting a picture of Walt b/c, um, I love this man. Seriously, he's the best.
With Ellie there was a resident that was there with Walt that asked if he could do my epidural and I said sure. He missed and Walt had to come in and do it anyway. Well, there was another resident there this time and she asked if she could do it and I said no. I wanted Walt. I'm sure she would have done a great job but I didn't want to risk it so Walt to the rescue. I'm sure he thought I was totally weird asking him for a picture but this man knows the good stuff. :) My legs were super, duper numb but I could still feel some of the contractions which was kind of unpleasant but let's be honest, most the pain was taken away so I really can't complain. I knew once I got to a about a 6 it would go fast and I was right. It took a while to get to a 6 but once I hit a 6 and especially a 7, it was go time. He was born around 3:45ish? I went from a 7 to birth in about an hour. Fast stuff, folks!
I didn't really even need to push, he kind of just came right out. I really do not know how people push for hours on end, that would be exhausting. I saw very quickly that it was a BOY!! I'm not going to lie, I was in total and complete shock. For nine months I thought that it was a girl. Honestly, it took me about one month to get used to the idea that it really was a boy. The surprise was so much fun though, so much fun. He was 6 lbs, 14 oz. and 20 inches long. We had him at Davis Hospital, I really love it there. Loved all the nurses that I had and I love Dr. Spencer.
Mom S had the kids so we called her and they headed over to the hospital. Ellie wanted nothing to do with me or the baby that first day but then warmed up to us both on Saturday when they came to visit. Sam on the other hand has been obsessed with Ben ever since he got his hands on him. He's a great helper but a little overbearing sometimes. Okay, a lot overbearing sometimes. But he really does love him so that's a positive right?
My hospital stay was so awesome! I always look forward to the hospital stay and it did not disappoint. Seriously, my nurses were so great and it was nice to have a break from the day to day mommy/wife duties. And it was General Conference weekend which made it even better! I got to sit and hold this little piece of heaven while listening to awesome talks. Dan actually got to take a couple days off this time so it was really nice to have a few extra days of help. And just like that we are a happy family of five.
