We had a great time as always. I feel like I was a really lazy on taking pictures this year but I still got a few good ones. My parents were kind enough to let us borrow their car. Sad that we don't have a car we can trust to take us on long trips but those are the facts. Anyway on our way to meet Danny's grandparents at their home in Tremonton they were re-surfacing the road and there were lose rocks all over the road. I knew we were going to get a rock chip, I could just feel it. Some idiot driving a huge truck and pulling a trailer was all over the road driving crazy and we got two huge rock chips. So our trip started at Allred's getting the rock chips repaired. It put us about an hour behind the caravan but they were kind enough to wait for us in Boise and I think it was worth it.
Saturday we just got all unpacked and situated in the beautiful home that Gary and Camille had rented. It was about 11 miles out of McCall in Donnelly and it was in a nice private area.
Sunday we went to church and went on a nice little hike. The hike was suppose to be a quick drive but ended up being a very long hour and a half up a long dirt road. We finally made it and Sam loved it. He isn't a huge fan of the hiking backpack. He wants to be out running on the trail. We let him run the end of the hike and we couldn't believe how well he did. He literally ran down the trail for probably about 1/2 mile or so. He kept falling and biffing it on the dirt trail. He didn't cry once, he is a tough little guy because they weren't small falls. He was so filthy dirty by the end but he was as happy as could be.
Monday we went on a hike to Boulder lake. Sam pretty much said "out" the entire time up and down the hike but we fed him junk food and that would keep him quite for a while.
I like this picture but it is unfortunate that I didn't realize his ear was folded next to my cheek. Also unfortunate that I didn't have any make up on that day. Oh well I still like this picture.
One of the very few family pictures I got on the trip. In fact one of the like 6 pictures out of 200 that I am actually in. I guess that's what you get for being the photographer.
Love this picture. Danny jumped in the freezing cold water and Sam was dying to get in with him. He loved it, can you tell.? We went on a little hike past the lake this year but I turned back earlier then most because I am a big baby when it comes to mosquitos and they were everywhere. Poor Sam was covered in bites from head to toe. Camille bought bug repellent on the way home from that hike. Sam loved, loved, loved to explore. I would usually be okay with it but the mosquitos would swarm even worse if you stopped or didn't keep moving at a quick pace. He kept stopping and I just couldn't take it so his exploring didn't last super long on this hike. I'm such a lame mom I know.
Monday night we went down the canyon to watch a play. It was the Scarlet Pimpernel and it was pretty cute. There was mixed reviews from our group but we all agreed that they did a good job with what money they had to work with. Right? Something like that. Dan pretty much missed the entire thing b/c he was out with Sam. It's just a hard age for a kid to sit still you know? We returned home very, very late. I think it was around midnight. That's late for adults and kids alike. Gary had made reservations to rent waverunners on Tuesday morning. We were suppose to be up and ready to go at about 7:30ish I think. Unfortunately, when we woke up it was raining so we cancelled the beach/jetski day. That is my favorite day so I was sad but I'm over it. We ended up just hanging out in the morning and then it cleared in the afternoon and it ended up being a beautiful day. I think we just hung out most of the day. Dan and the fellas went golfing in the afternoon.
Wednesday was river rafting trip day. We took an afternoon river run this year, we usually go in the morning. It was a total blast, I loved it. Dan was going to stay home and help with the kids but he ended up getting to come and I was very happy about that. He did lose his favorite hat because our river guide tipped Mary and Dan out of the raft on purpose. He did give Dan a free hat so that was nice of him. It was super hot when we were waiting to go and then we got on the water huge storm clouds moved over and it rained a tiny bit. It was cold without the sun but luckily the clouds moved out as soon as they moved in so it got sunny and warm again. I have no pictures to show but it was a great day and we had a great time. THANK YOU to Camille, Gary, Dean and Grandma and Grandpa Simmons for staying back with the kids.
Thursday was canoe/kayak day.
Tell me that isn't the cutest pictures of Sam, I love it! We kayak to this rock every year and everyone who wants to takes a jump or two. Sam was loving playing in the water. The kid is fearless I tell you. He must have gotten it from Dan because I am the most unadventurous person I know. Really, I'm terrible. I tried to put a bunch of pictures in a collage so i won't have to put them like this but after I spent 30 min. loading all my pictures into stupid picasa I went and hit make collage and it told me that safari couldn't open the page. What am I doing wrong picasa experts? Very frustrating I tell you.
I didn't include all the jumping pictures because if I did it would take me forever. Most of the pictures I took are of people jumping off the rock. Most of them blurry as well, sad.
We turned around to head back to our cars and Sam was super ornery. In fact, he woke up super grumpy this day and was grumpy all day until he fell asleep. He fell asleep in Danny's arms in the kayak. So who does that leave to kayake the group back to home plate, yep that's right, me! That's a lot of weight to paddle all on my own. It was hard and I had to rest every few minutes. My shoulders were so sore a couple days after that. We returned the kayak, put Sam in the car and he fell back asleep. He slept the whole car ride home and then I moved him from the carseat to the pac and play and he slept another hour. He has never in his almost 2 years of life slept like this. Usually the second we stop he is wide awake and will not go back to sleep. It was really nice and I hope I have more children that sleep like that in the future. He must have just been so tired. He woke up much happier.
Friday was kind of a free for all day. Shelley put a few of us ladies through a rigorous workout. It was tough but I loved it! Dan went golfing with Tyler and his dad and they had a great time. I got in the hot tub with Sam and then we went to the park. There was a cute little park just a couple hundred yards from the house we were staying at so that was fun.
They had these cool things that you would talk in and then your voice would come out another little microphone thing on the other side of the park. It was pretty sweet, sam loved them.
Look at these two. Okay so it's not the best picture of them but they are so stinkin' cute together. Ginger is 3 months older then Sam and she is a tease. She teases Sam and it frustrates him. First child syndrome I guess. I think it's pretty funny myself and I also think it's good for him. Can't wait to see them grow up together. All the kids get along pretty well actually. It will be fun to watch all of the grow up together. I'm such a lame-o for not getting more pictures. Lesson learned I guess.
Every family took a night to make dinner and all of the food was delicious. Everyone did a great job. Saturday we left around 9 o'clock a.m.. Sam actually did really well on the way home, I was very happy about that. However, I was so ready to be home. Once you get on the road to head home I just want to be home. I will probably add more later but I am glad that I got this all written down before I am going to be gone for almost 2 weeks.
We cannot say THANK YOU enough to Dad and Mom S. for pretty much supplying everything for us on this trip. Thank you, thank you!! We had a great time and Sam has been going through some serious vacation withdrawal. He asks for everybody all the time. Thanks again for everything we had a great time!

Em, I love the way you write - your personality just flows out of the words. It's like listening to you talk :). Cute pictures! Don't you love summer!?
