What a fun trip! I am sad that it has come and gone so quickly. We left Monday morning to our first destination West Yellowstone. The first day we just got there and got settled. It was really cold and windy the first day so I was worried the weather was going to be bad but we had great weather ALL week. Well, it rained Friday while we were leaving the park but we were driving so it didn't matter.
Tuesday we headed into the park to do a couple hikes. Danny wanted me to act like I was petting the Elk and this was the result of that.
Danny was getting frustrated with me b/c my hand kept moving, oopsy! We did our traditional hike Fairy Falls on Tuesday. It is a 5 mile hike round trip to this beautiful waterfall. The mosquito's were ridiculous on this hike. Really bad, and we didn't have any repellent on. That was my least favorite part of the hike. But the waterfall was great and it was tradition so we just had to do it. I decided that I was determined to actually be in some of the pictures so I forced Danny to take a picture of me. Proof that Sam does get his cheese ball behavior from me.
This was before the mosquito's started swarming. Sam did really well in the hiking back pack as well, can you tell?
This picture if really overexposed but I'm too lazy to edit it so I'm just going to put it as is. The picture below is us getting ready to head back. I'll be honest, Sam lasted on my back for about 10 minutes. I don't think I had it adjusted very well b/c the backpack was killing me. Good thing Danny was willing to carry him. Thanks baby face!
After Fairy falls we decided to have lunch and then do another hike to Mystic Falls. My mom stayed back with the little kids and Sam fell asleep so Dan and I were able to go with my dad and some of the older grand kids and a couple sisters and their husbands. It was a much shorter hike but it still lead to a great waterfall. I am not a huge hiking fan but when it leads to a waterfall I like it so much better. After the two hikes we were all pretty well beat so we decided to head back in to Yellowstone.
Here is some of the wildlife we saw on the first day. Just your typical Elk and Bison but it's still fun to see them in the wild. I had my telephoto lens on my camera so when these guys walked by the car I didn't get the best pictures but whatev.
Wednesday we took the time to stop at the sign and take the typical Yellowstone National Park entrance picture. Dan held Sam up behind this sign for the grand kids picture and Sam absolutely LOVED it. He was just laughing and smiling the whole time. I don' t know why he liked it so much but he sure did. Probably b/c he loves to climb and hang on to stuff right now so I think he thought he was pretty cool to be holding on to the sign. Look at his face in the grand kids picture, it's pretty sweet.
We met my aunt and uncle and their kids that came from North Carolina. We had lunch and then went on a little hike where we had seen a grizzly bear in previous years. The water was so high we actually couldn't do half of the hike but it was fun none the less. Unfortunately the activities of the next few days are quickly blending together. I guess it isn't all that important to give a play by play.
We saw a few more waterfalls and some hot pots. The pictures below are of Sam completely wired. Once I get the video loaded from the video cam I will have to include it but for now you will just have to enjoy some pictures we took when he was wired. If Sam misses a nap, sometimes he will go through an ornery 10 or 15 minutes and then he gets a second wind and it is crazy, wired kid. The result is below. While we are talking about sleeping let me just tell you what a TERRIBLE sleeper Sam was on the vacation. Most nights he still cries himself to sleep for 5 maybe 10 minutes but when you have close neighbors in cabins and hotel rooms we couldn't really just let him cry so that resulted in us holding Sam all night long or having him in bed with us which both of us totally hated. Sometimes we would get him in the pack n' play first thing but then he would wake up a couple hours later and just be so confused as to where he was and then we couldn't get him to go back to sleep. It was a nightmare and Danny and I didn't sleep much the first few nights but the last couple of nights he did okay and we were able to sleep in the bed without him. I have just decided Sam is bad sleeper. He was great up to 4 months and he takes pretty good naps now but still struggles at night. Oh well, I've decided that it doesn't last forever so I'm over it.
