Sleeping update/super long post!

Well, things are going pretty good on the sleeping front for little Sam. He has been waking up around 12 or 1 and crying for 30-45 minutes. I have been so tired I have hardly heard him crying. Probably not a good thing but it hasn't been hysterical crying most nights. Last night he got a little hysterical but I just had Dan go in there and make sure he wasn't screaming to the point of purple face and wasn't stuck in his crib or something dangerous like that. It has actually been kind of nice b/c I can't go in there or he will absolutely lose it so Dan has been the one getting up and laying him back down if he is standing/screaming in his crib. He wakes up again at around 5 and I have been feeding him that time because quite honestly I need to wean myself from him not eating in the middle of the night. That may be too much information but for those nursing mothers out there you know what I mean. It can be painful, so we will take the middle of the night feedings out and then get rid of the early morning ones.
Something is still off with him though. He just hasn't been himself the last week or so. I swear if I don't see a tooth show up sometime soon I'm going to get concerned there is something wrong with him. He was laughing at me pretty hard today and that comforted me a little knowing that his good old self was in there somewhere but still. I can hardly get him to nap at all anymore even though he is sooooo ridiculously tired. It is just so strange and driving me crazy. He use to go to bed at around 6-7 which was pretty early so I am fine that he has been going to bed later but he has been FREAKING out when we lay him down to bed. When he was 2-3 months old we let him cry when we laid him down to sleep so he would get use to comforting himself thinking it would be good in the long run. Well, now when we lay him down and we know he is exhausted he seriously loses it. I am talking standing, screaming in his crib, throwing himself around in the crib, crying so hard his face is purple, you get the idea. The other night we were just going to let him cry himself to sleep because nothing but me rocking him as been working the last week but the crying got so out of hand he whipped himself from one end of the crib to the other and hit his head on the crib. Seriously, I'm concerned. This is just a phase right? Everything will get back to normal soon? Moms out there, any advice?
He has shown pretty bad separation anxiety lately which isn't good either and he has been showing signs of tantrums already. Crying when I won't give him the licorice I'm eating, taking things away that he shouldn't have in him mouth, etc. Sigh..... he has been a pill lately if you can't tell. That's parenthood for you right?
On a brighter note he is crawling all over the place. He stands up or tries to stand up on ANYTHING. He is so strong it is ridiculous. He tries to stand up a lot just from the crawl position and as a result has had some pretty sweet gymnastics moves. Like you know when you are sitting on your bum and you put your hands down and push up and try to get your bum off the floor with your feet straight out in front of you. Girlfriends, do you remember when we use to try this? Anyway, he did something similar to that the other day and we were amazed. Too bad we didn't have the video camera out. He gets so excited and proud of himself when he pulls himself up on stuff he just starts laughing and bouncing, so cute. He loves to walk all over the place if I am holding his hands. I absolutely love that he can crawl except I can't leave him playing with toys when I get in the shower anymore so that is a downside but I still love it. Okay, this post is long enough. If you made it through, congratulations!!!
And he is just too cute to not include some pictures.

Ah, yes, the joys of toddlerdom are creeping closer and closer. he's just getting smarter and realizing that a - he loves you because you are his mom and you are awesome, and b- treats are delicious (who doesn't deep down want to rip a piece of licorice out of someone else's hand that is eating it right in front of you, right?)
On the sleeping - he is probably just TOO tired - lauren has been doing that a lot lately, she needs a nap, but she doesn't take one ,so then a couple days later she goes to bed at 5:30 because she just can't take it anymore, you know? someimtes I would rock them to get them to take a nap, but still hold firm on making them go to sleep themselves at night.. good luck!

I love the description of his new moves. I bet that's part of it, just too much to do, who can sleep--he'll get less excited by his own awesomeness soon right?!? I bet there's a tooth on the way too. It's possible he also might have lingering hunger if he's anything like my crazy kids. I always feel like I have the hardest time getting enough food for kids at that age, they want to eat what they can't but don't like what they can. I'd suggest apple sauce and mashed banana but come to think of it, I think I'd prefer licorice to that also, I guess child protective services would get a call if I suggested mashed candy. hahaha.

Em, I'm glad to hear that your child has sleep issues too. Drake's issues involve napping. He is actually getting better, but seriously, who knows what to do! I'm pretty convinced Sam is getting teeth. Have you tried giving him some ibuprofen at night? I'm not about medicating a child just for some sleep, but he might actually be in pain. The hormone involved with teething is active at night at that may be why he is fussier. Just a thought. Good luck, hang in there. Drake is a mover man too...time to baby proof!

Oh, that all sounds way too familiar. All I can say is good luck! I have tried just talking soft and nice to josh when he is throwing fits. I even put him in his bed for a minute when he is too out of control and he loves it and calms down. For some reason I don't think Sam would be ok with that. Good luck with the sleep thing, it will pass!

I wish I could see Sam do some of the gymnastic moves. By the way I think you were the only one who was strong enough to hold yourself up for any length of time!
