Race Day!!

The Half Marathon is over and I am so happy. I'm happy b/c I did better then I expected and happy that I don't have to worry about the training anymore.
On Thursday Sam was really warm but I just thought it was b/c the AC in my car doesn't work. (My car is in the shop right now, I hope the AC is an easy, cheap fix) Anyway, Friday he really started getting a fever so I knew it was going to be a late night. I didn't get to bed until about 11:30 on Friday night and I had to meet my ride to go up to the race at 4:10. Sam woke up at 2:30 to eat and he was just burning up. I felt so bad for him. I fed him and he went back to sleep and then I got up at 3:30 to get ready for the race. I was really worried about how he was going to do in the morning with Danny. Not b/c Danny isn't a great dad but Sam refuses to take a bottle so I wasn't sure how he was going to eat. I took my cell phone with me up to the race so that I could be in contact with Dan.
I really am not sure why they make us get there so early. We had to sit at the starting line for an hour and a half. It was freezing cold. My shoulders were sore the next day b/c I was shivering so much and so tense for so long. Anywho, Dan called me a couple time before the race started. Poor Sam had a terrible fever and of course refused to eat anything. I was glad when the race finally started so I could hurry and get to the end to see my boys.
The race was awesome. I started kind of in the back b/c I was looking for some girls that I knew that were also doing the race. I couldn't find any of them so I just turned on my iPod and started running. I was  a little frustrated at the beginning b/c I couldn't get by some of the people. It took a good couple miles for the runners to thin out and a good couple miles for me to finally warm up. I felt great pretty much the entire race. My only goal was to do it under 2 hours so I would check my watch at every mile mark to make sure I was making my goal. The weather was great once the sun came up. There was even a short time when we had the wind to our backs. I felt great until about mile 11 and then my legs really started hurting. I just kept looking for runners ahead of me and telling myself to pass them. Just kept picking them off one by one. That helped me to keep going. I ended up doing it in 1:50. I was thrilled!
I enjoyed racing again but the whole race when I would pass the mile markers for the marathon I would say to myself "I am soooo glad I am not doing the marathon." My marathon bug is completely gone and quite honestly I don't know  if it will ever return. The half marathon is so much better. It doesn't require half as much training and I can actually walk the next week. In fact, I ran 5 miles this morning. I'm feeling pretty good. I would still like to get into the St. George Marathon 10 year club. I think I have 3 more marathons to do to get in so maybe I will force myself to do it but who knows. I just have no desire and I am totally fine with that. Maybe that chapter in my life book is closed, who knows. Random running thoughts. I'm sure you are all bored at this point.
Sam and I pretty much lounged around all day Saturday. The race really did a number on my stomach for some reason. I had a terrible stomach ache all day and Sam continued to have a terrible fever. Still don't know what caused it. The fever is gone but he continues to be extremely whiney and cranky. I keep waiting for a tooth to pop through any day.

Great job Em. You should talk to Brandon and Brett about running this summer in Yellowstone. That would be quite a sight!!! Hope Sam feels better.

Congrats to us! I'm still sorry we didn't meet up seeing as how we basically finished at the same time. I agree with pretty much everything you wrote about running post-baby. I bet Sam is teething- Drake was like that right before he got his first tooth.
