What's the Deal?

On Monday, I commented on how well Sam was sleeping. He slept so good, I could hardly believe it. In between his great sleeping he was super happy and pleasant. Which isn't rare for him, he is happy most of the time. Notice happy disposition to the right.

Tuesday was a different story. Every time I laid him down for a nap yesterday he would lay there for a while and then start screaming. He actually was screaming most the day unless I was holding him and even then, he was screaming most the day. I'm pretty good at letting him cry when I put him down for a nap and after 5-10 min. he usually falls right asleep. Yesterday, every time I went in to check on him he was attacking his little hand. At first I thought he was just getting frustrated because he couldn't get his hand to stay in his mouth. Come to find out I think the little guy was hungry. I think he has been going through a growth spurt the last 4-5 days. I went online to look for signs of growth spurt and he pretty much hit every one of them on the head. His eating has been great some days and then other days he is just super ornery and unpleasant until I feed him and then he is pleasant again. I was super frustrated because I wasn't sure what his problem was. Once I figured out that he was hungry (even though I had fed him an hour to an hour and a half ago) I felt terrible that he was screaming because he was hungry. All I have to say is my heart goes out to any parents who have had a colicky child. It is so frustrating. It really made me appreciate what a great baby he has been. I did not take that picture yesterday. I was in no mood to be capturing his screaming. The picture was a couple weeks ago, not that it matters. He woke up about 6:30 yesterday and finally went to sleep for the night at 8:45. He only slept 45 minutes during that time frame yesterday. It was exhausting for me and him.
Well, today he is super sleepy again. He woke up and ate and then hung out in his swing and took a short cat nap while I ran on the treadmill. He was pleasant in his bouncer while I took a quick shower. Then we sang some songs and he was smiley and super pleasant. And he has now been asleep for almost 2 hours. I can't figure it out but I hope that if it is a growth spurt it will be over soon. I don't want anymore days where he screams pretty much all day. I have been spoiled with a good baby.

Ok so I don't check your blog for a few days and all of a sudden you've done some serious posting! I love all the updates. Sam is definitely the cutest tiger I've ever seen.

those crying days suck! Jenn must have not checked your blog, yet, because I'm going to guess she would have a comment :) Our friend just blessed her baby on Sunday and his crying day was that day - all day - including his blessing, a little party after, and into the next day.. ouch! I love the part about how you didn't take that picture when he was crying - that is so true, it definitely robs you of your will to take pics, etc.

Sam is getting so big! Ryker is not much of a napper either unless he is going through a growth spurt. Oddly enough I have to check on him if he sleeps for more than one hour a nap, probably just me being paranoid.

Oh, Em. It is only just beginning. Is it because I had three kids pretty much three days apart? I don't know, but I think sleep, GOOD sleep that is, is a lost art these days. Good luck to you, he is so cute. I'm glad he is such a great baby for you. Actually, my kids really are great as well, they are just kids. I can't imagine having a baby with colic either, YIKES!

Fern is right, I forgot to check your blog (haven't figured out a way to get the privae blog to send me updates yet)--all I can say is ABOUT TIME you had a crying day!!! HAHA, just kidding--those days really suck. Luckily with Maddie we've been mostly in the clear, but we're still working on putting the Josh days behind us (8 years later ;-) )
